Healthy Nutritious Snack Foods: HOT CRAVINGS

Most culinary herbs can have a powerful healing influence on the entire body. Ginger, cayenne, onions, garlic, peppers and horseradish are examples. These herbs as food, create warmth, are very diffusive and induce circulation generally. Chinese foods and snacks tend to be hot and peppered. Indian foods can be both hot and spicy.

So what happens when you have hot cravings?

Your body is seeking the healing properties of these energizing herbs. These herbal foods in their raw state are naturally therapeutic. So become familiar with their benefits. Garlic for example is highly anti-bacterial and has been touted as the Russian penicillin. Ginger is excellent for cramping, stomach and menstrual. Cayenne has powerful influence on the circulatory system and a strong affinity to heart health.

Healthy Nutritious Snack Foods: SPICY CRAVINGS

Refined packaged foods typical to supermarket shelves are dimineralized, fortified, loaded with chemicals. These are devitalized foods with high animal protein content, saturated fats and hydrogenated oils. They are lacking in natural spicy flavors. In response to spicy cravings, people unfortunately eat a lot of pizza for example, and a lot of commercialized Mexican foods.

So what happens when you crave spicy foods?

The body is longing for the phytonutrients found in exotic culinary spices and herbs. At the health food stores you can find an array of these spices. These you can use in dishes and drinks. The Ayurveda Indian diet uses a lot of spices to promote health and disease prevention. Ayurveda does not advocate meat eating and uses some dairy.

Healthy Nutritious Snack Foods: SALTY CRAVINGS

Sodium is an alkaline forming element. Some other key alkaline forming essential elements are potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous and chlorine. Sodium is particularly important to the composition and pH balance of bodily fluids. Practically all foods, processed and natural, have some salty content. So a deficiency of this mineral is unlikely unless you are using diuretics for high blood pressure.

So what happens when you crave salty foods?

The body is experiencing TRACE mineral deficiencies. Most of the salt we ingest is highly refined table salt that is devoid of minerals. The processed foods we eat are usually non-nutritious salty foods. And it is common knowledge that excessive dietary salt leads to high blood pressure. Hence those who follow a traditional diet of processed salty foods can be lacking in minerals. Sea salt and sea vegetables provide you with a good profile of trace minerals. Of course fruits and vegetables will sustain you with ALL the minerals your body needs.

Healthy Nutritious Snack Foods: BITTER (ACRID) CRAVINGS

Most people eat between the spectrum of sweet and salty processed foods. Yet bitter foods are also important.

You will find some bitter herbs included in all body cleansing detoxifying product formulas. These herbs will target the primary bodily systems of elimination that include: the lymphatic system, blood stream, liver, kidneys, bowel, intestines and the skin. Some overall benefits of bitter herbs will result in boosting the immune system, removal of bodily wastes and toxicities, increasing energy, weight loss and improved bowel elimination.

So what happens when you crave bitter foods?

All systems of elimination and specifically the gastrointestinal tract are in need of the naturally occurring phytochemicals of whole plant-based foods for both nutritive and therapeutic benefits. As a master herbalist, I consider herbs to be food. When we consume dark leafy green vegetables and use authentic culinary herbs and spices, we are assuring ourselves more efficient and healthier digestion, assimilation and elimination.

Vegetables make healthy nutritious snack foods.

To conclude…

Craving is your body’s messages to you.

The closer a food is to its natural state, the better it is for you.

Leafy green vegetables are great and will satisfy cravings.

Salty cravings can also create liquid cravings. Oftentimes people are dehydrated because they move from salty foods to sugary drinks, coffee, beers and other alcohol.

Chronic dehydration contributes to diseased bodily states, starting with a torpid blood stream. So drink WATER.

Meanwhile, some people crave dry foods like crackers and chips. They may be consuming too many liquids. Eat more juicy and high liquid content fruits and vegetables instead of those processed white flour crackers and oily chips.

In response to eating too many dry foods, you may crave creamy items like milk and dairy products inclusive of ice cream, or even greasy oily foods. So observe your behaviors and choices.

Healthy eating and snacking can be challenging. You just have to find what works best for you and your loved ones. It then becomes all easy.

Pineapples are healthy nutritious snack foods.
